GREENSBORO (AP) -- In the first eight days of December, seven homicides were reported in Greensboro. That's more murders than the city has detectives. Police said six men were shot and another man was stabbed. All but two are linked to drug or gang activity. Thirty-two homicides have been reported this year in Greensboro, slightly above the five-year average. But the recent killings are prompting city leaders to meet with police officials to find ways to cut down on violent crime. Captain Gary Hastings, commander of the police department's criminal investigation division, said the recent homicides reflect a culture that promotes violence, and aren't a direct reflection on police. He said police can respond to a pattern of crime but can't prevent one armed person from getting angry at another. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
