Offensive misery continues for QB-challenged Panthers

Story body

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The quarterback looked like he was 44, which he is. The running back fumbled again, and the wide receiver couldn't get open to get involved.

Carolina's 37-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday sank the Panthers to new depths.

Vinny Testaverde missed open receivers and had an interception returned for a touchdown. DeShaun Foster lost his fifth fumble and Steve Smith was mostly a non-factor as the Panthers virtually ended their already-slim playoff hopes.

It raises the question of whether embattled coach John Fox should stay with Testaverde or go with rookie Matt Moore for the rest of the season. David Carr is too far down the depth chart to be considered.

The Panthers close the season against three division leaders: Seattle, Dallas and Tampa Bay, a scary prospect for a team which has lost six of seven games by a combined 170-52.
