I's likely an old, sick, weak cougar that can no longer take down a deer or run down a rabbit. So it must go after the "easy-pickins'," pets. Unfortunately, that places it in proximity to man, which will hasten its end. Soon, it will cross paths with someone who will kill it. There ARE cougars out in that Green Swamp, folks. Not many, but they're there.
