Silver Alert program to help find missing adults in NC

READ MORE:
RALEIGH (AP) -- North Carolina has adopted a new alert program to help law enforcement agencies find missing adults with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other cognitive disabilities. The Silver Alert program is similar to the Amber Alert program, which is used to notify media and the public when a child is abducted or reported missing. Crime Control and Public Safety Secretary Bryan Beatty said Wednesday the new program will help quickly locate vulnerable adults. State officials anticipate that they will issue as many as 25 to 30 Silver Alerts each month. Many of those will only be issued locally. Beatty said authorities would not release the specific health information about the missing person to protect them from harm and abide by health privacy laws. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press.
