Local support heading out west

READ MORE:
After a prayer and a hug, a group of 13 dedicated volunteers begin their trip to Oklahoma to provide disaster relief to their fellow man. After a severe ice storm covered most of the Mid-West three weeks ago, thousands of people are still without power or supplies. Now members of Wilmington's Southside Baptist Church and The North Carolina Baptist Mens Organization are setting out on the two-day trip with tractors and blankets to bring hope to people as they begin a new year. Project Coordinator, John Mcintyre says "these guys have been without power some of them without power for two and a half weeks now and they've asked us to come so we're going to work a little bit and sleep well at night." The group is prepared to work on more than 1400 job sites to clear trees and repair roofs all free of charge and for many, helping those get out of the cold is all the payment they need. This isn't the first time The Baptist Association has chipped in to help others suffering from natural disasters. In September, they went to Ohio after it was hit with heavy flooding and locally, they went to Columbus County after a tornado ravaged the town of Riegelwood. For Pastor John McIntyre, doing good deeds is the best way to give back. "It's all about the people, the work is a way to get there and we just want to make their lives richer, and in return we'll be blessed."
