Pender woman to run for Senate, challenge Soles

A local journalist has decided to try her hand in politics. Rocky Point resident Bettie Fennell announced her candidacy Thursday at the Pender County Board of Elections. Fennell worked as a reporter for the Star News for 22 years. She'll be making a run at the state Senate seat in the 8th district -- challenging incumbent RC Soles. Soles has held the seat for the past 30 years.
