Kitchen Cops 1/10/08

READ MORE:
A Wilmington fast-food restaurant has a lot of work to do after a visit from a health inspector. And two eateries take full advantage of a second chance. This week's lowest score belongs to the Bojangles in Monkey Junction. Five points off for chicken nugget, chicken pieces, sausages and grilled chicken sitting too cold. Five more points off because the hot water was too cold. Cups were overloaded in dispensers. And lots of things need cleaning. A two-point bonus for workers passing a food safety class boosts Bojangles' score to 85. Now to some regrades. The Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire still has some issues with the way dry goods and toxic materials are stored. But the score of 85 improves to 98.5. An even bigger improvement on a second chance. Last month the Golden Corral in Monkey Junction scored just an 83. Last week an inspector returned and took off just one point for some needed cleaning. Add in a two-point bonus and it's an 18-point improvement and a total score of 101. A host of local restaurants have something to be proud of in this week's Kitchen Cops report. An inspector says Peanuts at Beau Rivage Resort and Golf Club "Looks great." A perfect 100 plus two points for workers passing a food safety course. The folks at Island Brew Coffee Shop and Café in Oak Island need to wipe down the counters. But still a top score of 102. The inspector says Sunset Gourmet in Sunset Beach is doing a good work, but it's time to touch up the paint. No deductions, though, and another 102. Back to the Port City. Picasso's Deli and Cafe on Racine needs to replace chipped service ware. But still a perfect 100. An inspector says A Southern Thyme on Fountain Drive "Looks terrific!" A perfect 100 as well. The same perfect score for Pink Palace Tea Room in Southport. And some problems with light bulbs were the only thing that kept Frenches Classic Burger on Carolina Beach Road from a perfect score. Instead it earned a 99.5
