Marine heard distant small arms fire after convoy was bombed

CAMP LEJEUNE (AP) -- The driver of a Humvee targeted by a car bomb in Afghanistan testified today he heard small airs fire in the distances after the explosion. Sergeant Heriberto Becerra-Bravo testified today at Camp Lejeune and the Marines conduct a Court of Inquiry into a March shooting that killed up to 19 Afghan civilians. The three member board is considering whether to recommend criminal charges for the commander of the Marines first special operations company, Major Fred Galvin and a platoon leader, Captain Vincent Noble. Becerra-Bravo says the blast violently shook his vehicle in the convoy and he could hear small arms fire between the firings by his owner gunner. Afghanistan's independent Human Rights Commission said the Marines fired indiscriminately at pedestrians and people in cars. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
