March 3 trial date set for Rep. Wright on criminal fraud charges

RALEIGH (AP) -- State Representative Thomas Wright will stand trial on criminal fraud charges in March. Wake County Judge Judge Henry Hight set the March 3 trial date on Monday. Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said he wanted the case tried in a timely manner and before the scheduled May 6 primary, in which Wright could seek re-election. Wright was indicted in December on six felonies. The Wilmington Democrat is accused of illegally obtaining or misusing more than $350,000 in campaign donations, loans and charitable money. Wright also faces an ethics investigation in the Legislature and could be removed from office. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
