Where did our Southport go?

I fell in love with SP like so many others did years ago. I had a great job and I loved living on"Beach Time" as we locals call it. I walked the town, loved the park ,Provision Co.afternoons and evenings. Never was afraid here, I could go to the park alone @ midnite if I wanted and felt perfectly safe. Walk all over town looking at the historical areas. I guess what I am saying is it WAS a darn near perfect town and we have lost it to developers, to the shops that only the elite and tourists can afford, even most of the restaurants are out of our league as far as prices. Basics like food and housing have become so expensive that the middle income families are really close to being run out of town so SP can make room for the rich and semi-famous and of course there are the 2 weekers once a year. The people like me that support, live and work here during the "Off Season" are suffering. If the developers find an inch of land they build condos. What used to be peaceful and quiet is no more, what used to be safe is crime ridden slowly but surely. We do want out town back, I know it is too late now. I am looking for another SP, I see what "Progress" has done to us, so I will go elsewhere. I wanted to spend the rest of my life here and all that is now just a fairytale. So long SP and may you be happy with what you have done and I really DO hope the MONEY was worth it to you.
