PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) -- Classes are canceled today at the school in southern Ohio where a teacher's estranged husband stabbed her in front of her fifth graders. Administrators at Notre Dame Elementary in Portsmouth say they'll have counselors on hand for the students when the school reopens next week. No children were hurt. The teacher's lawyer tells The Columbus Dispatch that Christi Layne is doing fine after surgery. Police say her husband, William Michael Lane, was the attacker. He was found dead hours after the stabbing when officers entered his home. Authorities say he had shot himself. Police say in addition to stabbing his estranged wife, Lane fired a shot in the school. Investigators also believe the stabbing of another woman in Portsmouth yesterday is connected. Last night, an overflow crowd jammed a local Catholic Church for a prayer service.
