Drought persists from North Carolina coast to mountains

READ MORE:
RALEIGH (AP) -- All of North Carolina remains under severe drought or worse. The U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday does not account for rain that fell across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Some areas saw more than two inches of rain this week. The weekly report was no different from the drought map released last Thursday. Officials said more than 49 percent of the state faces exceptional drought conditions - the most intense category. Those conditions extend across the middle of the state, from Rocky Mount to Asheville to Charlotte. The rest of the state is under extreme or severe drought. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
