You are where you work

Do you dread going to work every morning? Or do you head in with a spring in your step? How much you like your job has a lot to do with how well you actually do it. Tens of millions of Americans head to work in office buildings across the country every day. But how you feel about where you work may impact how you do your job. According to a new survey, nearly 70 percent of these office workers say their productivity is affected by the condition of the building where they work. A survey by commercial real estate firm Blumberg Capital Partners shows that one-in-three workers have accepted or left a job because of the condition of the building. So what are the average office worker's biggest complaints? Nearly half of those surveyed say temperature is a problem -- too hot or too cold. Unclean or un-stocked bathrooms were a problem for 31 percent of office workers. Bad furniture, unpleasant odors, bugs and theft of personal property round out the top six complaints. So what can companies do to keep workers happy? According to the survey, the most popular workplace amenities included covered parking spaces, subsidized cafeteria, an on-site gym and workplace day-care for people who bring their children to work.
