Story body

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Appalachian State is in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament for the third straight year.

The Mountaineers beat Western Carolina 78-59 as DJ Thompson led the way with 15 points. He was the only starter to hit for double figures. Doug McLaughlin-Wiliams had 12 points, and Eduardo Bermudez and Donte Minter had 11 each -- all off the bench.

The second-seeded Mountaineers have already set a school record for wins this season, taking their 25th victory in beating the Catamounts. They'll take on third-seeded College of Charleston in tonight's semifinals.

Davidson is in the other semifinal bracket. The Wildcats beat Chattanooga 78-68 to set up a meeting with Furman, which knocked off North Carolina Greensboro.
