What if??

What if you were buying from a hobby breeder, and showed up unannounced at their home (where hobby breeders have their breeding animals), to inspect how the animals were being kept and make sure it wasn't a "puppy mill", as this article suggest? You are not showing up at a store that is open for business, but at someone's home with their family. What if everyone interested in buying from them did this? What if you were a hobby breeder, breeding from your home, and strangers were looking your address up on the Internet and feeling justified to show up at your door unannounced and demand to see your animals at THEIR convenience?!! You don't know this person and they are showing up at your home wanting to be shown around. Hmmmm If someone is buying an animal from a breeder (has a deposit and signed contract for an animal), and wants to come out and visit the parents, then make an appointment with the breeder, do not just show up unannounced at their home, because most breeders are NOT puppy mills or large scale operations, but are actually hobby breeders doing it from their home. As far as larger scale commercial breeding goes, they do have to have mandatory inspections. They have to be USDA licensed and are open to inspections by the USDA. The ones who are not in compliance with USDA guidelines can be fined or shut down, and prosecuted if they are guilty of abuse. Making more laws does not make the people who are not in compliance with the existing ones obey the new ones, it takes away more rights of the others. We all know murder is illegal...some people do it anyway. Doesn't seem to matter that in NC it can be punishable by death. Some parents are awful and abuse their children...should all the good parents be open for inspection by the government to make sure their maintaining a good environment for their children? (tongue in cheek) Just trying to make a point here, and show other perspectives, so don't read into it. I love animals, but I also like to eat chicken, turkey, and fish, wear leather shoes, and have the right to do so. If these AR folks get their way, those of us who enjoy these freedoms will not have theirs. We are the USA...land of the FREE!!! (supposedly)
