Filmmaker receives rave reviews at Cine Noir Festival of Black film

READ MORE: Filmmaker receives rave reviews at Cine Noir Festival of Black film
WILMINGTON -- Raleigh filmmaker Roger Edwards is ready to show visitors his first movie at this year's Cine Noir Festival of Black Film. "I'm very happy, I'm very excited to be here, this is my first film and it is actually getting some attention, some buzz." Trouble in the water is the name of Roger's short film. The main character, Gary, struggles to shake racial negativity from his childhood, brought on by his parents. Then he meets a wise man along the way, who helps him get over it. Roger says positive feedback from viewers could change his small film in to a major movie production. "We are trying to see how the audience responds to the material, whether it's controversial whether it's embraced." Usually before a major movie studio picks up a film, the movie has to start at small film festivals like Wilmington's 2nd annual Festival of Black Film. If the movie is well received it could eventually appear on the big screen. Rogers piece was picked up by two more festivals. What he calls his defining moment. After his film aired at the festival, the audience praised his work. "To feel their energy, to hear them get it, that's the most exciting part to me, just to know that I nailed something, that I made people feel something and now I just want to go on and do more of it." Small steps towards the bigger picture.
