CHARLOTTE (AP) -- Karl Hankton, the Carolina Panthers special teams captain who was released last week, is jailed without bond after police charged him with misdemeanor assault on a female.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say the 36-year-old Hankton was arrested at his home near Mountain Island Lake after police were called to the home Monday evening.
Hankton was released from the team Thursday as the Panthers adjusted the payroll to make salary-cap room. He had been the special teams captain for five of his seven years with the team.
He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.
