SC police have leads in shooting near Coastal Carolina University

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Police investigating the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man near Coastal Carolina University's campus say they have developed several new leads but they are releasing few details. Horry County Sheriff's Sergeant Bob Carr said Tuesday authorities wanted to speak with several people in the shooting death of Allen D. Smith. Carr would not elaborate. An autopsy on Smith, who was not a student, was scheduled Tuesday. Classes at the university were expected to resume Tuesday afternoon. The school's Web site says there will be increased security on campus and counselors would be available. Coastal Carolina University has about 7,800 students. About 2,200 students live on the school's main campus about 15 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
