Following the success of mandatory conservation measures and the steady improvement of drought conditions statewide, the city is easing water restrictions. However, the city is still below normal in rainfall and some mandatory restrictions remain in place. The city is now at stage 1, which allows for more irrigation times, and no restrictions of pressure washing or car washing.

Following are some of the highlights of the changes to the water restrictions:

  • Automatic and non-automatic spray irrigation systems
    • ODD numbered addresses can water between midnight and 6 a.m. on ODD calendar days.
    • EVEN numbered addresses can water between midnight and 6 a.m. on EVEN calendar days.
  • Non-spray hose-end sprinklers
    • ODD numbered addresses can water between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. AND 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on ODD calendar days.
    • EVEN numbered addresses can water between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. AND 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on EVEN calendar days.
  • No restriction on the use of hand-held hoses, but the hose must be equipped with a nozzle or trigger device.
  • No restriction on pressure washing
  • No restriction on residential vehicle washing, but hose must be equipped with a nozzle or trigger device.

These restrictions are still mandatory. Repeat violators will continue to be subject to a civil citation of $500. Citizens may email conserveh2o@wilmingtonnc.gov or call the city’s water hotline at 341-0114 to ask questions or report violations. Although the restrictions do not apply to private wells, the City is urging all residents to limit their usage of water from any source.
