TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Wayne Ellington scored 18 points and Ty Lawson had 14 to lead eighth-ranked North Carolina to a 73-58 victory over Florida State in the ACC quarterfinals.
It was the first game since center Tyler Hansbrough suffered a broken nose when he was elbowed during the closing seconds of North Carolina's victory over Duke last Sunday. He wore a protective mask and scored six points before fouling out late.
The game also ended the string of four straight victories for lower seeds in the tournament, being played for the first time in Florida.
Al Thornton, the ACC's leading scorer and runner-up for conference player of the year, scored 12 points before fouling out with more than 6 minutes to go.
