The latest state unemployment numbers are in, and they're up. Right now, North Carolina has a 5.4 percent unemployment rate, and while that's not terribly high, people in our area say it is becoming increasingly difficult to find work. For some...it's a full time job trying to find one. At the Employment Security Commission in Wilmington, people say it's becoming increasingly difficult to find full time work. "Its excruciating and depressing and its very very demoralizing," said Karen Poggie. Unemployment has gone up 15 percent between November 2007, and April 2008, and our area is feeling the effects of those numbers. Alex Easley manages Manpower Staffing Agency. He said the gap is widening between those who need work, and the available jobs. "It's slowed down this quarter in terms of job orders clients coming in looking for people to work for them. It's picked up for people looking for jobs," said Easley. New Hanover County has the lowest unemployment rate in our five county area at 4.4 percent. Bladen is the highest at 6.6. Easley with Manpower says one tip when you're looking for a job is to have an updated resume. It may sound like a given, but Easley said maybe only 50 percent of people looking for work have one.
