The mid-term elections are less than a week away now, and if you're like me, you are sick and tired of all the boring campaign ads. You may even be a little disenchanted with the political system because of all the bickering and name calling. But there is an election going on right now where you can really make a difference and even save yourself and your friends and neighbors some cash.
Low-cost airline AirTran Airways is looking to add a new destination and wants you to help pick it. All you have to do is go to AirTran's website (http://www.airtran.com/nextcity/) and select among the 51 possible choices, including Wilmington International Airport (http://www.flyilm.com).
Right now only Delta/ASA and USAirways serve ILM. That limits your options as a traveler and often keeps the price of tickets high. But add in a third airline, and that could change. First of all, AirTran, like Delta, has its hub in Atlanta. That would create direct competition between Wilmington and one of the world's busiest airports. ILM officials also say that if AirTran comes to the Port City, they'll try to convince the airline to have direct flights to popular destinations in Florida, including Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale. Imagine if Mickey Mouse were just a quick flight away.
So whether you're discouraged about voting for squabbling politicians, help yourself and your fellow travelers out. Go online and vote to bring AirTran to Wilmington.
