Brunswick County summer camps

READ MORE: Brunswick County summer camps
With prices for pretty much everything on the rise, you may be looking for ways to keep your kids entertained without breaking the bank. As we head into the summer months, kids in Brunswick County can get in on some summer fun with little cost to their parents. Oak Island Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual athletic summer camp, offering activities like soccer, baseball, golf, and much more for kids ages 8 to 12. The bonus -- it will only set you back $60 a week. Oak Island Parks and Recreation athletic director Rebecca Squires said, "We like to try and keep it affordable for everybody. Gas prices are going through the roof and people are cutting back, so we don't want to bump our prices up. We want affordable for our parents to be able to send their kids somewhere and also go to work." The program begins June 16 and runs through the end of August. Spots are filling up fast so call 910-278-4747 for more information. The new teen center in Oak Island is re-opening its doors in time for summer and it's free all summer long. The center will offer both indoor and outdoor activities for teens 10 to 18. The grand opening for the teen center is on June 20. Oak Island special programs coordinator Karen Derr said, "They need to utilize it. It's a great place for kids to be and it's a positive place for the kids to be and meet other people. A lot of people move into the area or are just down for the summer, it's a great place for them to meet other kids." There will be plenty to do in Southport over the summer. The Activity Camp starts up on June 11 at the South Port City Gym. Three week camp sessions will be for ages 6 to 14. Prices range from $95 for residents to $125 for non residents. The Boiling Spring Lakes recreation center will also be hosting some low-cost summer programs beginning July 7, and programs will run through August 15. Prices range from $70 to $90 and will cater to kids from preschool to 14-years-old. Leslie Shoaf, Boiling Spring Lakes Summer Camp, said, "We try to work with our constituents to make sure that we keep prices low so they can afford to do all the normal things for life. With gas prices and food prices going up, it's real important to keep it economical for the family so we can service our area." We will have details on activities in New Hanover and Pender counties coming up on NewsChannel 3 next week.
