Getting better fuel economy

READ MORE:
With the national gas price average at a record high, many people are looking for ways to cut back on fuel consumption. WWAY has some tips on how to make your tank go the extra mile. It's possible to conserve gas by making a few changes in your driving and car maintenance habits. Triple A says to slow down. Don't accelerate quickly or halt to a dead stop. That kind of hard driving can knock off anywhere from five to 33 percent off fuel economy. Also check your tire pressure frequently. The rounder your tire, the easier it will roll. Regular tune ups can also help fuel economy. There is also something called eco-driving. Eco-driving encourages going easy on the gas pedal and maintaining a steady speed. The technique claims to lead to an average fuel savings of 5 to 10 percent. Also make sure to cut down on excess baggage. The lighter the car, the less gas it takes to power it. Triple A says every 100 pounds of weight reduces fuel economy by two percent.
