Yow, Wolfpack fight through tough times heading into NCAAs

Story body

RALEIGH (AP) -- North Carolina State coach Kay Yow clapped and smiled when her team appeared on the TV screen during selection for the NCAA women's tournament.

It was a bit of good news during a difficult time for Yow, whose father had passed away the same day.

The Hall of Fame coach has also been fighting a recurrence of cancer she was first diagnosed with 20 years ago.

Yet Yow is still roaming the sidelines and has the Wolfpack back in the tournament for the tenth time in 12 years.

NC State earned a Number Four seed in the Fresno regional and opens at home against 13th-seeded Robert Morris on Sunday.
