RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A report out today shows that the number of people in North Carolina who died last year as a result of domestic violence increased slightly over the previous year.
But that's not the only reason that victim advocates are calling for tougher laws targeting abusers.
They're also concerned that one woman was killed inside a domestic violence shelter in 2006, a type of incident that national advocates have said rarely happens.
According to the report by the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, at least 79 people were killed by domestic violence in the state last year.
