Painting can be a fun and creative way to spend your time but did you know it can also help you heal? One local woman says it has helped her overcome a debilitating illness. Sabra Lennon has been living with multiple sclerosis for more than 20 years. "I was at a point where I didn't even want to do my hobbies or anything," Sabra said. All that changed when she met Cynthia O'Neil a local artist and owner of Found Gallery. “She saw some of my work and complimented me and it just made me feel so good coming from her and she inspired me to pick up the paint brush,” said Sabra. Sabra has been back to painting for more than a year and now takes a painting class from Cynthia. “It gets your mind off of your illness and everything. It's just great, really inspiring,” Sabra said. The owner of Found Gallery in downtown Wilmington, Cynthia O’Neil said "we try to teach people to paint with positive energy so that people who see the paintings can receive it back." Sabra said, "it puts your mind in a zone you know relaxation and it gives you a sense of accomplishment." Even though walking has become more and more difficult for Sabra, she says painting has kept her going. She said "it really has made me feel more alive in the midst of all the disabilities.” Sabra said she'll continue to take painting classes for hope, health and healing and that painting is beneficial for everyone.
