ONSLOW COUNTY-- Thud Gandy was one of those who gathered at Dixon High School to remember 24 year old Fort Bragg soldier Holley Wimunc.
"It's horrible you can almost feel the pain that she must have went through." Wimunc's burned body was found 3 miles from where Gandy lives. Wimunc's husband John, a Camp Lejuene Marine and a another Marine are facing charges for her murder.
"I just want to show my support to a woman who is lost and hopefully we can save some other women and call attention to this problem." Wimunc makes the third female military member found dead in eastern North Carolina.
Camp Lejuene Marine Maria Lauterbach's charred body was found near the base, She was pregnant. Cezar Laurean, a fellow marine is the suspect for her murder. Fort Bragg soldier Megan Touma's body was found in a hotel room in Fayetteville. She was also pregnant. The cause of her death has not been released.
Holley Wimunc's family wasn't able to make the ceremony but contacted organizers. It was at the service the community learned more about Wimunc, who was considered an over acheiver. She was also a loving daughter, sister and a mother of two. Sneads Ferry resident Darrell Combs attended the service "For this to happen, it was a very tragic moment upon the family, but upon the community also.
"A tragedy this commmunity and Gandy don't want to see again. "I don't ever want another woman to go through this."
