I didn't know Emmit, but it doesn't make it any less sad. Especially, as it's been said, since there was just not reason for this to happen. I've lived in Wilmington for a good number of years, and through the years I've had the misfortune to see the streets become overrun with gangs. I don't know why, maybe kids just feel like they have no one else to look out for them. The unfortunate part of it is that no one is willing to give up names or information about gang members out of fear. But it's this FEAR that the gangs thrive on and continue to kill for. So until the community is willing to come together, take that risk, and call out the gang members, I am afraid this won't be the last sensless act of violence.
