People who have weathered severe storms that have passed through our area came together last night to share their stories. It was part of a NewsChannel 3 sponsored hurricane forum at the Cape Fear Museum. Tuesday night's hurricane forum proved to be an interesting one as people told their survival stories. Susan Brown remembers Hurricane Fran in '96. "We were expecting and delivered our first daughter during the hurricane," said Brown. Two years later Brown's son was born the day after Hurricane Bonnie. "What was happiness for us, brought a lot of tragedy to others and I'm sorry about that and it hurts me," said Brown. Destruction and devastation are what Bob Neale remembered as he showed pictures and reflected on Hurricane Fran's wrath. Nearby, NewsChannel 3 meterologist Sonya Stevens educated those who came out about the storms. Chief meterologist Chris Phillips even added some of his hurricane experiences along the coast. The Cape Fear Museum's goal is to capture these memories on tape to share with residents who may be new to the area. "It's kind of nice to relive something like this although we don't want to do it again, and for those newcomers to the area it's a good thing for them to learn a little bit about because it's history for our area," said Brown. Some of the stories people shared dated back to the 1960s. The Cape Fear Museum plans to use these stories in a future exhibit.
