Ouch, ouch and double-ouch!! We spent a week at Kure, just south of Carolina Beach, this August and boy, oh boy! Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_nettle I got stung quite a couple of times - twice really bad! Still scratching a few weeks later. Are these East Coast versions of Box Jellyfish? FYI there is a new suntan anti-jelly lotion, safe sea or something.
