I have lived in Wilmington all my life. I am not old enough to have experienced Hazel but I have been here for everything since I was born in 1975. While I am considered young by many standards I have been through quite a few tropical storms and hurricanes, some bad, some not so bad. I would leave if a Cat 3 or higher was coming but nothing lower. However, I do not live on the beach NOR am I ignorant to the fact that these storms are dangerous! I have great respect for these types of storms and take the necessary precautions. I do not have nor do I believe in 'Hurricane Parties', etc. It is the college kids and transplants who don't pay attention nor do they have the type of respect they should for these types of events. Unfortunately they are the ones who end up getting hurt, 'because they just didn't understand'.
