NC community college board to discuss immigrants

FAYETTEVILLE -- Hispanic leaders say they're excitedthat North Carolina community college officials will discuss this week whether to admit illegal immigrants to degree programs. The Fayetteville Observer reported Monday that advocate Tony Asion said the decision to reopen discussion would benefit everyone. Community college spokeswoman Audrey Bailey said the board will discuss the matter during meetings Thursday and Friday in Raleigh. In May, the system barred illegal immigrants from enrolling in degree programs and said it would wait for guidance from federal immigration officials. Last month, federal officials said the matter was up to the state. Information from: The Fayetteville Observer, (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
