HILLSBOROUGH -- Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a man charged in the shooting death of former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson. Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall told a judge this morning he plans to seek the execution of 22-year-old Demario James Atwater. Atwater and 17-year-old Laurence Alvin Lovette are charged with first-degree murder in Carson's death. The 22-year-old from Athens, Georgia, was found dead March 5th in a residential street near campus. Atwater also is charged with first-degree kidnapping, felonious larceny, armed robbery and felonious possession of stolen goods. The death penalty can't be sought against Lovette because of his age.
