Many customers of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority still have not received bills from the latest cycle. WWAY had a chance to sit down with president Matt Jordan to find out what customers can expect. If you live in Wilmington or New Hanover County, you might still be waiting on your latest water bill. But, there is no need to worry about late fees. The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says no extra fees will be charged as they to iron out some of the billing delays with the new system. The greatest concern is for customers who find a higher water usage level than normal. For those who had readings taken for a period longer than 70 days, an appropriate percentage of this water bill will transfer to the next billing cycle. Jordan said all the kinks should be ironed out by the next billing cycle. "Probably two full cycles before we get to a level where we feel like we're moving along at a comfortable pace. But everyday the process is being refined and improved," said Jordan. Jordan said that the 9,000 gallon tier system was adopted to encourage conservation. According to the US geological survey that averages out to about 450 ten minute showers, 900 loads of laundry, 3,000 toilet flushes or brushing your teeth 9,000 times every two months. Jordan said the billing delay is due to confusion from combining county and city accounts. If you have already received your bill and have questions or concerns, you can call the Public Utility Authority customer service center at 910-332-6550.
