Gone Fishin'

READ MORE:
Anglers from all across the southeast cast off in Brunswick County waterways on Saturday. The 29th annual saltwater classic fishing tournament was held in the Brunswick islands. More than one hundred forty teams of fishermen participated. The tournament came on the heels of legislation that eased boat-towing restrictions statewide. Tournament organizers said removing those restrictions effects more than just fishermen. “Our sport is truly a traveling sport,” said tournament director Terry Adkins. “Without the ability for these teams to travel with their boat on a trailer, the sport would be hurt and obviously the revenue would be shrinking in the communities these events are held in.” The new law passed earlier this week allows boats up to ten feet wide to be towed without a permit. Before, owners needed a special permit and license. Boats as wide as nine and a half feet can now be towed on weekends and at night.
