New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department and the Wilmington Police Department join forces

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department and the Wilmington Police Department are joining forces to try and reduce gang violence in the area. Today Sheriff Causey swore in six new Wilmington Police Criminal Conspiracy Unit officers. These new officers will joins the 20 other members in the Gang Task Force Unit. Within that unit, police officers and sheriff's deputies have the same authority and jurisdiction throughout the city and county. The sheriff says that makes them more effective when it comes to fighting gang violence. New Hanover County Sheriff, Sid Causey said, "By being together we can share intel, office space work on the same problem together and any time you put a team approach on a problem you get a better product and it's just something we're excited about." An open house today showcased the new Gang Task Force Office location on Chestnut Street in downtown Wilmington.
