Community holds fundraiser for fire victims

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- A fundraiser for victims of a mobile home fire in Leland kicked off in Wilmington this afternoon. Organizers put on a silent auction and raffle to help raise ten thousand dollars to build the Bells a new home. Local businesses and organizations including WWAY sponsored the event and donated prizes. Event organizers were eager to help out. "People have house fires and lose their homes on occasion," said Julie Stuart who helped organize the event. "Things happen. But these people are good people. They're good people who deserve help, you know they put others first and they're very humble." The bell family lost two sons in the December fire, along with all of their possessions. Since then, members of the community have donated everything from clothing to money to help the family get back on their feet.

As someone who knows what it

As someone who knows what it is like to lose a home to fire I can say I know what this family is going through. It is a difficult experience and one you never fully recover. My issue with this story is that the organizers of the event admit there are others who have lost their homes but they decided to have a fundraiser because this particular family is good. What about all the other families? Are they not helped because they aren't good? I think next time think before you speak!

Fund raiser location

You neglected to mention that the fund raiser was held at Kefi's. I was there and it was a well organized and fun event. Thanks for all the hard work everybody put into making the fund raiser happen. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Bell family.

Thank you all for helping my niece and her family out. God bless each one who has helped in this need.
