Congressman McIntyre says he'll vote NO on Health Care Reform

READ MORE:

U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre, released the following statement regarding the upcoming health care vote:

“Health care reform is needed, but the bill before us is too expensive, does not adequately address rising medical costs and skyrocketing insurance premiums, and tries to do too much too soon. We simply cannot afford to create a new federal bureaucracy that costs nearly $1 trillion when our national debt is $12 trillion and there is no plan in place to address it. I will not vote for it.

“The critical issue facing our nation is jobs. Citizens, families, and communities all across our region, state, and nation are facing challenging economic times, and we need to do all we can to help get our economy moving again. Jobs and economic development are the most important issue we face as a nation. We must work together to create new jobs, help small businesses expand so they can hire, assist with job training, invest in the next generation of employment opportunities, and provide economic security for our citizens.

“After we help jump start our economy, we should again turn our attention to health care reform – but with a clean slate. We can and should work together to pass targeted health care reform measures that can bring down costs, provide for increased coverage, and not further sink our nation into an endless sea of red ink.”

Vote "YES"

Hello Congressman McIntyre - I'm a voter that lives in NC and I wish for You Sir to Vote "YES" on the Healthcare Reform Bill. Because WE the PEOPLE of USA needs MEDICAL coverage some more then others. We all have to understand the Healthcare bill is NOT PERFECT, but tell me what is PERFECT? By Voting "YES" gives Congress an opportunity to correct some issues, change something, modify or whatever is needed over the years. At this time USA's living standards is dropping into a (3rd)Party Country environment. Around the world their is alot of Countries that have gov't insurance for their citizens. I know because I have lived within some foreign countries-and alot of those citizens are happy with gov't insurance. I have worked for various insurance companies -state medicaid; gov't medicare; private insures: Aetna; john Hancock/wellpoint and unitedhealthcare. So, I have some understanding of HEALTHCARE insurance. If USA wants to be look at as ONE of the top 3 most Powerful, Resourceful, Wealth and Healthiest country then Vote "YES" on HEALTHCARE bill. We MUST start will the CITIZENS of USA to be the TOP COUNTRY. GOD Bless you Congressman McIntyre & your Family.

Now if I didn't want to survive I would have had the transplnt. Now I want to contiune to live but the medical cost is very high. How do I pay for this Medical expense if someone does't help me. I need help.

Eliminating luxuries as a means to provide for your healthcare

Perhaps you should look at ways to create more usable income by eliminating luxuries. By luxuries I mean: cable TV, internet conectivity, cell phones etc. These are luxuries not necessities and could easily produce ~ $150 per month that you could use to provide for your own healthcare.
That's what I did when I was unemployed...

Luxuries and Modern Day Slavery

Arn't these things you're calling "luxuries" also considered to be "modern day necessities". You mention cable tv as a luxury and what is funny is that's where the insurance companies are pitching you big insurance propaganda. I know people who do not buy health insurance because if they did they would be spending 12000 or more a year for their family. My question is do people really think their taxes are going to be 12000 higher because of government health insurance? I know for a fact that people in Italy spend %10 of that for their family each year. And it's all because of taxes. Now that's what i call saving money!

Amazing!!! $150 a month for

Amazing!!! $150 a month for health insurance? Please..do tell the name of the provider so I can get health insurance for $150 per month. What was the deductable? $10,000? lol

Whaaaaa....

Stop crying Guest 888. I am a divorced Mother that lost my job in the dot coms with a 6yr old. The only 'public assistance' I took was unemployment and I found a way between savings, severance and unemployment to keep my son covered by a personal insurance policy. As a parent, this is the decision I made so I could provide for my family. Maybe its time for you and everyone else looking for government subsidies to step up and take responsibilty for your life and family. I went from an Electrical Engineers position to check-out position at Walmart but I took care of my family!!!
And in response to your claim about greedy doctors and insurance companies, perhaps you should educate yourself about the difference in profit margin vs gross revenues. Stop demonizing the insurance companies! They are only a service organization and you don't have to take their service. That is your choice but you shouldn't be able to take the fruit of my hard work and sacrifice to subsidize your choices!!!

Good for Cheryl! I also take

Good for Cheryl! I also take care of my family with my hard earned cash. They have health insurance which is not subsidized. I don't know why I am being attacked for my opinion. I am not asking for a free handout I am asking for affordable healthcare for all!!!!!!!!!

On second thought.....

On second thought WWAY needs to contact Mike McIntyre's office and ask for clarification. In the press release he says, "I will not vote for it" (The Health Care Bill), but will he vote against it?

There is a plan out there for the Dems in the House to pass a "fixes" bill. This "fixes" bill changes some of the provisions that have been challenged and debated, but noting of real substance. In this bill is another provision/clause that basically states that by approving the "fixes" bill that the House will have been "deemed to have passed" the Senate's version of the Health Care Reform Bill. This fixes bill only requires 51 votes as it is not an "entitlement bill".

That way, the Congressmen who want to be able to say "I didn't vote for the Health Care Reform Bill" can say it and not technically be lying. They get to have their cake and eat it too.

I REALLY hope this sin't what McIntyre is doing.

Wow I cannot believe how

Wow I cannot believe how much ignorance there is about this subject. I have worked hard for 24 of my 41 years. I have paid my taxes and my insurance premiums. What do I have to show for it???? I am now unemployed because of the replubicans I have to use my savings to pay for COBRA because of a pre existing condition through no fault of my own. I have been out everyday looking for work, have taken temp jobs. I now have to sell my house. Now I do not wish this kind of situation on anyone but really people get real. ANY of you could end up in a similar situation and need help. America would rather see its people die than to have a national health service???? Thats a crime and extremely sad! I hear people say that they don't want the Government dictating what can be done with their health, but don't the greedy insurance comapnies already dictate what they will and will not cover???? Wake up!!! Americans are far to eager to help out other countries but turn a blind eye to their own!

I can't believe the ignorance either!

Guest 888, should the money you pay for your internet connection go towards your more important bills,....like your mortgage or your health care? Since the Republicans are taking your house from you and everything! lol

Hey, Guest 888

My car was totaled last week. I was broadsided by an uninsured motorist. Will you sell that person auto insurance now so I can get my car fixed?

freedom

here's some freedom for ya. i'm gonna cancel my health insurance if health reform isn't passed. i've watched my premiums go up with bcbsnc but my deductible doesn't go down. i don't get anything better than i got before. i'm just paying more. And so are you.

p.s. according to what you just said it is not simply good enough that the government require people to have auto insurance. people still drive around uninsured. maybe we also need government auto insurance as well. i bet that really blows your mind!! lol

insurance

only if he's a republican

Break out the violins

Hey, I'm crying my eyes out from your "woe is me" story, so please explain how you're unemployed because of Republicans.

That should get everyone laughing again.

wmd's lol

weapon's of mass destruction. that's how the republicans made lots of people unemployed. they spent our money to find nothing in Iraq for 6 years.

that should get everybody laughing again. bam!

So you're saying since you

So you're saying since you have a pre existing condition, that other people who have jobs should get more money stripped out of their pockets by the government for your health care? You blame the Republicans for your job loss, so obviously you like placing the blame on someone other than yourself. Just like what you'd like to do with your health care bills, give them to someone else.
You, my friend have a tragic flaw in your perception of how things should be. The "entitlement" mentality. Just like when you said bitterly, "What do I have to show for it?"

Healthcare for unemployed

Look here Mr. Almighty Taxpayer. I can't wait for to be unemployed. It sucks having to be on unemployment. I am not saying its anybody's fault but look at the #'s. Unemployment at a high in NC yet it must be all these people's fault for not finding work? Becareful who you judge.

First of all I am NOT your

First of all I am NOT your friend.

Yes I blame the republicans as I was working for a government contractor that had contracts cut short due to the $$$ being spent on the Iraq war. I didn't vote for them...so I'm to blame????

The reality for my pre existing is that I cannot get coverage from Insurance companies unless I pay an extraordinary premium amount. I don't expect a free ride, I still have taxes taken out of my unemployment, but yeah, I do think I am "entitled" at least to be able to afford to be covered by health insurance.

This country's healthcare system is a joke!!! It is the only country in the world that cares more about $$$ than caring for its sick.

By the way I'm not "bitter" I'm disgusted and disappointed!

Only Republicans voted to invade Iraq?????

Better go back and review those voting records, pal. LOTS of Democrats voted for it as well.

Your point is pure speculation, anyway. You were a contractor whose contract was not renewed, period. There is absolutely no way that the government could break out the numbers to match the money that paid you earlier being diverted to Iraq.

About your "entitlement," please explain how any corporation that is in business to make a profit can be ordered to sustain a loss because of you.

That's what the moochers and looters don't understand - this plan will never survive Constitutional muster. It will be struck down by the Supreme Court. Look at the Ninth and Tenth Amendments. The federal government has no authority to order people to buy health insurance. It has no authority to demand that businesses ignore sensible business practices (such as charging more or denying coverage for pre-existing conditions), and since insurance has traditionally been regulated at the state level, the Interstate Commerce clause will not apply.

You're in a bad situation but everyone faces obstacles in life. You get over them, under them, around them, but somehow you get past them and move on. You kick life's butt or it will most assuredly kick yours.

The goverment has no authority to tell me to lie down and let you get a boost over that obstacle by stepping up on my back.
-

the Dems that voted for it

the Dems that voted for it have since realized they were lied to by the bush administration. that's how lies work. i shall now list the 23 who opposed the invasion (HJ Res 144).

Daniel Akaka (D-HI)
Jeff Binghaman (D-NW)
Barbara Boxer (D-CA)
Robert Byrd (D-WV)
Lincoln Chaffe (R-RI) the R that actually tried to save us money
Kent Conrad (D-ND)
Jon Corzine (D-NJ)
Mark Dayton (D-MN)
Richard Durbin (D-IL)
Russel Feingold (D-WI)
Bob Graham (D-FL)
Daniel Inovye (D-HI)
James Jeffords (I-VT)
Edward Kennedy (D-MA)
Patrick Lahey (D-VT)
Carl Levin (D-MI)
Barabara Mikulski (D-MD)
Patty Murray (D-WA)
Jack Reed (D-RI)
Paul Sarbanes (D-MD)
Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)
Paul Wellstone (D-MN)
Ron Wyden (D-OR)

May they never be forgotten!

You hit the nail on the head!

That's exactly this guys mentality. It's the poor pitiful me syndrome. He expects others to foot the bill for his own irresponsibility. He says " any of you could end up in a similar situation". NO SIR! I plan for hard times and unexpected problems! That's the difference between you and myself, I'm proactive while you sit inactive. Get over it! Or better yet, get off your a** and make the necessary changes to fend for yourself!

Why do you say I'm

Why do you say I'm irresponsible??? I am paying my way.
Good luck with your plan.

Outstanding!!!!

Representative McIntyre is under increasing pressure as the day to vote approaches.

Rest assured "Pit Bull" Pelosi and the Annointed One are using all of the power in their bag of tricks to sway McIntyre to their side of the vote.

His position clearly shows he listens to his constituents and someone on staff reads the volume of emails he received.

Good Job; stay the course on this issue.

Don't just email... CALL them

I called this morning to verbally portray my support. I got an answer on the first ring and a very helpful woman on the other end.

Look into what the State Legislature is doing in preparation for this bill.... It doesn't stop in capital hill... Raleigh is getting onboard with Anti-obamacare....

Do some research... Read the front page of the NY Times today. Excellent article on State's Rights....

Cut out the drug reps and their daily $500 lunches

Picture this....
Pahrm companies har a rep (at lests just say at a three story campus on Medical Center Dr. ) almost every day of the week to promote thier drug of choice.. That lunch will be between $300- $500 (With medical records and housekeeping sweeping up the leftovers or over 1/2 of what was left) that is sometimes delivered in the Drug Reps leased company car, with a salary of usually over $60k per year... While the drug rep is there, he will drop off around (retail) $1800 worth of "samples:, a couple of hundred (premium) pens with logos, kitty cats, etc.. A few dinners at Portland Grill, Chop House, incites to Time Shares on Croix, a few closks, mouse pads, pen holders, etc...

So whatare we up to? An average of $3k per day, per rep?

SO there are normally 3-4 lunches a week (Lets go with 4 for the shock value..) $12k per week in drug rep perks for ONE location....

ONE location....

SO place limits (lie government has on what heathcare can receive as "perks", gits, etc...) There is a couple of hunderd million saved each week inthe US on pharmacuticals...

What else can we cut.. How about the over-paid, under-educates CNS that takes the plac as a nurse, but still gets billed out at a RN rate..

ICD coders making WAY too much per year memorizing numbers..

How about all that driving, delivering medical records when you also purchased an electronic system.. Go ahead already.. scan those suckers in... drop the delivery people..

What about the white trash redneck mom who sues the OB because her child had a red mark on her face as the MS worked for hours to save the infant's life... And Did.. Yet the business pays out $30k to keep out a lawsuit, and in turn ups liability coverage/MalP anouther 20% because of it.. (That could happen a few times a month) Now the OBs Salary is just $10k above the cost of malP insurance..

I gcould go on for HOURS about the money wasted to promoite tjhings and overpay people within healthcare...

The point is, it is NOT central to Wilmington or Medical Center... It happens EVERY day accross the country and hundreds of thousnds of places..

And the lawsuits you idiots file to try and get a free paycheck.. Yeah.. those raise our prices too..
So the cheap way to reform Healthcare?

Mandate NO compensation, fees, perks, rewards to providers (inclusing all subsidaries)

STOP these B.S. lawsuits.. Just don't allow them make the person suing HAVE to prove gross negligence befor a dime is paid out...

No company perks such as a 2010 Acura for you Mr. Drug Rep, nothing allowed for staff...

There Obama.. There is your billions a year... now force healthcare to lower my prices and everyone elses because of the money we saved, making COMMON SENSE decisions...
Now Mr. President.. Please stop focusing on healthcare and work on the economy.. Because it not, we will all be elgiable tor medicaid free insurance...

Thanks Mike!

How do you get through to the people who actually think this Liberal health care "reform" is a positive thing? You don't. They follow their elected messiah and he entices them with stories of hunger and sickness. Most of these people are also the ones with their hands out thinking the government owes them a living. Little do they care to realize that entitlement programs come from the pockets of the actual working class. The parasites will gather and wait for the scraps big government will ration. More votes to gain in the next election. The non-thinkers are out there and they can vote. Obviously. Obama was elected.

Congressman vote on health care

I am glad he is standing up against this government takeover of our health care and the massive entitlement program associated with it. He will get my vote the next time around. Obamacare will be a disaster for our country.

McIntyre votes no on health care insurance

Way to go, Mike! I know you're under tremendous pressure to go along with Speaker Pelosi's directives and it takes courage and conviction to part ways with your party on any major bill. This one is just like you called it - WAY to expensive to implement and it Lord only knows what is contained in some of the provisions buried in over 2,000 pages.

The Federal government has an abysmal record when it comes to running large social programs which is why Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Post Office and the Deparment of Energy are all on the brink of insolvency. Patriots like you will need to stand up and be counted if we are going to avoid bankrupting our childrens' future.

Thank goodness!

I'm so pleased that Mike McIntyre has stated his position on the healthcare bill. I am a registered republican that has supported him since I moved into his district. If you look at his postions it looks like he IS representing North Carolina and not Washington and The DNC. Ex: Agaisnt this healthcare fiasco, favors the repeal of NAFTA, co-sponsered a bill to enforce our immigration laws and fight amnesty, voted against Cap and Trade. All of these positions parallel my own and those of my family. Other than complaining that he should pay your medical expenses, perhaps you should rethink how you can provide for yourself and not look to others to provide for you.
