The guns look real, the blood looks real, and the situation is even more real than any others games in the past. “I do feel like I’m actually in the game and it is pretty realistic,” gamer, David Kamituska said. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is on the top of many wish lists this Christmas. In a time when tens of thousands of troops are headed to Afghanistan, the similarities to the war are striking. In the game, the soldiers look like marines and are armed with the latest in military technology. The mission? To kill terrorists. The videogame is extremely violent, but it’s also extremely popular. It was released about a month ago on the birthday of the Marine Corps and since then, videogame experts say it's the hot item this Christmas. “It's the realest thing on the market, and that's real what separates it from other games on the market. In Halo, you shoot them and they fall over, but this is war, there’s blood on your screen, your character is breathing heavily, there is debris everywhere, things are exploding, there’s dust, there’s particle, it’s everything,” said Gamerz employee, Cody Bunn. At Independence Mall in Wilmington, several people spend a couple hours playing the game. Gamerz arcade allows people to come in, pick a game and "play" by the hour. Employees say Modern Warfare 2 is by far, its most popular game. “Its a first person shooter so you see your gun in front of you, you see your ammo, and your aimer and everything like that you’re basically running around tagging people, and they are trying to get you back. It’s pretty awesome,” said Gamerz employee, Alex Williams. One Wilmington game shop says its holiday sales have tripled over last year, because of the gory game. “Every type, I’ve seen kids, to actual marines, to men in their forties, everyone, just to play" Cody added. Even though gamers love to play, many realize war is no game.

Not as much

We have three Xbox consoles in our home and three copies of COD MW2. I play with my two sons online. The issue is not with the game but with how children are raised. There is just as much violence on TV, albiet not from a first person perspective. My sons know the difference between reality and games. THis is no different that when we were children playing war with plastic machine guns.. It is simply on a game console instead... For that matter, two years ago, we all were playing the forst modern warfare. There have been no negative changes in my childrens behavior... However, I can promise you that there are children out there being effected because the paents instead of explaining what is real and what isn't... What is ok, and what is not ok... Use the Xbox as a babysitter, and their child gets so engrossed in the game, that they become a part of the game and I would bet, that it would cause agressive behavior as a result. Any gamne is ok, as long as the parent watches over... Carefully.... I am however, oposed to games that theach children that it is ok to steal cars, beat up people, and be a pimp like a series currently available for sale.... War is an unfortunate part of life, and this has brought a fear of war to my two sons as they se how graphic and horrible it can be..

Seriously, did the person

Seriously, did the person writing this story play it at all? First, the soldiers in the game are all international (Russians), or in a US Army Ranger Battalion, which is not the Marines. There have been countless studies proving no relationship between violent games and the actual carrying out of violence in real life. Also, the term "aimer" is incorrect, it is referred to as the cross-hairs. With that said, this game is totally awesome.

I'm a late-30s woman and I

I'm a late-30s woman and I love playing Modern Warfare 2. I'm not the typical gamer, therefore. I think these games actually make you realize that war is a brutal thing, and not just fun and games. Moreover, you play all sides in the hypothetical conflict, not just the Army Rangers, which, I think, helps you realize that war is often a study in points of view as to who the aggressor or freedom fighter really is. One country's freedom fighters are another's terrorists. Then again, I'm an adult with a college education and I think that too many young kids without that kind of background are playing this game without realizing its message. I 'meet' way too many young kids on Xbox Live who have no clue how the real world and wars actually are.
