CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A 76-year-old North Carolina man spent a cold night in his car at the bottom of a ditch after he left his rural home to buy his favorite oatmeal cream cookies.
Multiple media outlets reported that Arthur McKenzie told hospital workers a deer ran in front of his car Wednesday night and he wound up down an embankment so steep he couldn't climb out.
McKenzie had planned to drive about five miles to the store and back to his Cleveland County home because he had run out of the cookies. But the trip over a winding, remote country road was interrupted by the deer.
McKenzie was in stable condition at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
