Corey Vann's family raising reward money

READ MORE:
corey300.jpg
It has been about a month and a half since 20-year-old Corey Vann was found dead along River Road in New Hanover County. His family is still desperate for answers. Vann's relatives do not want his case to go cold. Vann's mother, Julie Covey, has opened a memorial fund in her son's name to raise reward money in hopes of catching Vann's killer. In the early morning hours of January 29th, Vann was found with a bullet wound to the head. Covey said she hopes the reward money is the incentive people will need to come forward with information. "You just take it one day at a time, you have good days and you have bad days. There are so many unanswered questions. We just want to know why. We just want to know who,” said Covey. You can donate money to the Corey Vann Fund at any First Citizen's Bank branch. Covey is hoping to raise five thousand dollars. Anyone with information on Vann's murder is asked to call local law enforcement.

Wow! I just have to wonder

Wow! I just have to wonder when our past mistakes give the right for someone else to take our lives from us. Let us not forget that this young man was someone's baby. He was someone's brother, nephew, and uncle. Many have suffered from this cruel act of violence and are still suffering due to the rude and unnecessary comments that are being posted on this site. Many were touched by Corey during his short life, and many are still being touched by him after his death. I suggest that you take a look at his smile, imagine his family's pain and open your heart. If that is too much to ask, just be the bigger man/woman and keep your comments to yourself as his family and friends try to heal and move forward. It is not our place to judge!!!!

If what is being said on

If what is being said on this board is too much truth for the family to stand, then they don't need to be on here reading

cory vann

hi my name is adraine atkinson and cory was a very good friend too me and my family he was a sweet boy i love him like my own bother e wher allmost the same age i will help find who did this too him and i hope thay get thay dersered i love him so so so much and its heart me that someone did that to him

You are the same age and you

You are the same age and you type like that???

Defend

You people will defend a criminal with active warrants all day long want you. No wonder the crime rate in Wilmington is so high. The other articles written about him were also full of people who said he was this great guy and who cares if he was a criminal. I bet all of you who wrote in were his customers and are just mad you have to find a new supplier. You all are a bunch of loosers like him. Just look at his record NC DOC number 0918020

Given the fact that he does

Given the fact that he does seem to be of the criminal element, the assumption would be that whoever it was that killed him is that much worse than he was. For that reason alone we should pursue the murderers. It has nothing to do with his character or whether he brought this on himself. It has to do with the fact that there is a murderer at large and no one knows who the next victim will be.

All winner here, Mr. Walters

Bet it up Mr. Walters. How's $5000 sound to you? Meet you at the bank of your choice. This is not about whether WE are winners or losers. This is about the fact that there are murderers running around loose, and you seem happy to let them. I don't care about Corey Vann's record. I'm not here to sing his praises or disparage his memory. What I do care a great deal about is seeing his killer(s) brought to justice for justice's sake. I want these murdering fiends off the streets that I travel before they kill someone else. Is that really so hard for you to understand?

Maybe

You are so off the wall there are no words for it. I never said not to lock up criminals or people who break the law. What I said is there are tons of people who defend the criminals no matter what they have done. Everyone wants murders, drug dealers, and perverts off the streets along with all the other criminals. But if you read the post carefully you will see just about as many rushing to their defense no matter what they have done. If you think tha just because I won't loose any sleep over another thug being dispatched to the great beyond then you are out of your mind. Is this so hard for you to understand?

And if you would have read

And if you would have read the artical you were making comments about, you would have seen that it wasnt about defending a criminal, it was about a mother bringing a cold blooded killer to justice. Your an idiot!

Not off the wall at all...

One of your first comments to this story was "Thats just great searching for the killer of a drug dealer and thug." Now, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but that certainly sounds to me as if you believe that effort is a waste of time. As in "who cares, because he was killed by one of his own ilk and he had it coming." By your other comments on this and other stories, you can certainly see how you are perceived as being indifferent to Corey's killers being caught. Whether you give any stock to the notion that he was a good person at heart really doesn't matter. Nor does your condemnation of him. Nor do your whining about people "defending the criminals", as you refer to Corey Vann. What DOES matter here is catching the criminals that killed him, that are still free to do more of the same. I do hope that your common sense will prevail over your attitude to allow you to at least agree to THAT being a worthwhile endeavor. Criminals, even those who commit crime on others with a checkered past, need to be brought to justice. If you can support a murderer in another story, surely you can support one being caught.

Never

I never supported a murder ever. Those who would defend people like this are the very ones who would cover up for them or at the worst help them escape. People get on here and say how he only did a few things wrong and you should forgive him for having stolen good or selling or having controled substances. Thats crap and everyone knows it. Again I state he had active warrants at the time he was killed that's not what I would call turning his life around. The police were looking for him and someone else found him. I'll give you this who ever did this I would venture to say is no better than him. Birds of a feather flock together. I bet he was killed by his own kind low life scum.

Mr. Walters...you're a

Mr. Walters...you're a gutless, spineless waist of humanity. Yes, birds of a feather flock together, and he probably did know the person who killed him, but this article is about a mother who is desperate to bring a killer to justice for her own sanity. You're a pig. Your what is wrong with people these days.

I think his room-mate killed

I think his room-mate killed him

well it is supicious

well it is supicious considering his roommate split and left for texas

Gutless

IF your so brave then put your name on your statements instead of hiding behind a fake name. I doubt you have the guts to be identified with your statements. That also goes for anyone else defending criminals out there.

Sorry dont use names on this stuff

Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Walters, but I don't use my name on this type of stuff. This isn't my life, but it seems to be yours. I don't think that makes me a coward though. You're a sad sad man Mr. Walters...very sad. It does make me happy to see that you can't defend yourself against the statement made though. All you have to say is how cowardly I am because I didn't use my name. I'll take that silly punch to the gut. Your still crying about how everyone bashing you defends criminals...not one person has said that though. Not one. So you obviously have a hard time comprehending things. All I am saying is that you are hurtful and rude in your statements. This is far from condoning criminal actions Mr. Walters. Stop being ignorant, and try reading before you get your kitty claws out.

but they have

Plenty of people have posted about "what a good guy he was" and "he was turing his life around" That isn't defending this criminal?

Neither one of us knows the

Neither one of us knows the intimate details of this young man's life or the circumstances surrounding the end of it. We, the public, certainly have more questions than answers. That doesn't mean we should give ourselves over to assumption. For example, if the police were out for him, why didn't they just pick him up at work? Seems he was showing up there on a regular basis, no? Generalizations aside, there are productive members of our society that started out down the wrong path. Whether Mr. Vann had reached his defining moment in life and had made the decision to turn things around is something you and I will never truly know. Those who knew him best can only attest to his desire, but his being able to actually carry it out has been taken away. Turning ones life around takes time. Corey doesn't have that anymore.

Maybe they didn't know

The Wilmington City police had the warrant and he was working in Brunswick County. Jurisdiction problem there. Also, the police department may not have know where he was working, living or hanging out.

Communication?

It seems to me that the departments could have communicated with each other to bring him in. I've no idea how those things work, but that seems like a reasonable scenerio to me. And I would have thought that the authorities had the means to find someone "hiding in plain sight", as Mr. Vann seemed to be doing. All beside the point I suppose.

WPD may of had no idea he

WPD may of had no idea he was working in Brunswick Co. He lived in NHC and while the next county over is spitting distance away, if it wasn't a felony or aggressive type of misdemeanor they wouldn't spend so much time looking for him. On top of that, he was due in for court the day he was found...maybe they were just waiting for him to show up in court to serve it.

VANN CASE

I AM TIRED OF ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT COREY AND ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THESE POLICE ARE DOING A GOOD JOB HERE AND IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL THE THINGS THEY HAVE GOING ON YOU SHOULD HOLD YOUR COMMENTS. OUR POLICE AND DETECTIVES AND OUR LOCAL SHERRIFF DO COMMUNICATE AND ARE DOING A GOOD JOB WITH THIS CASE AND OTHERS,I FOR ONE HAVE ALOT OF RESPECT FOR OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT,I HAVE SEEN THE GOOD JOB THEY ARE DOING IN THIS MURDER CASE AND IF YOU WERE IN THEIR SHOES OR THIS FAMILIES YOU WOULD THINK DIFFERENT. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE IN THIS COMMUNITY AND TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR BEING WITH THIS FAMILY AND OTHERS IN THERE TRAGIC LOSS OF THEIR LOVED ONES.I HOPE YOU THAT ARE BASHING THIS FAMILY AND THE LAW ENFORCEMENT NEVER NEED TO HAVE THIS KIND OF LOSS AND NEED ANY HELP.I WILL KEEP THIS FAMILY THESE LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONEL AND EVEN YOU THAT ARE SO NEGATIVE IN MY PRAYERS AND HOPE YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS NOT A GOOD THING. RATHER HEARTLESS.

There is a difference

There is a difference between bashing someone and just speaking the truth. No matter how you feel about Vann, most on here are just telling it like it is. Sorry if that's just too much for some to handle. I guess we shouldn't talk bad about the two boys that killed the UNC President also since they are someones son, brother, relative?

Vann Case

I applaud those who are letting the police do their job. As a personel friend of his brother I know that all of his family and friends, including me will be thankful when the killer or killers are found out. The officers on this case are the kind I would want in my time of need. In the past I have needed help from them in a domestic issue and one Officer made a huge impact in my life and every time I see him a tell him Thank You! I know Corey's death will not just fall by the wayside. No murder should. Every person's life is worth living. So tommorrow I go to another child's funeral because he went somewhere he shouldn't have been and at the age of 12 had an accident on a 4 wheeler. Where does it end and who has the right to say who deserves to die? NOT me. I'll continue to be a support system for the survivors.

The Only Ones

The only ones bashing law enforcement are his criminal friends and maybe his family. Come on do you fools really think the Sheriff's Department had him killed. He lived a life of crime and he was killed by a life of crime. From other posts on this site his so-called mother was not much better than him if she deserted him as a child as has been stated. His roommate also a criminal, has had his home searched how many times. Drug dealing and weapons come on and wake up. How long did you think it would be before someone went after him and it looks like justice was served.

I agree that Vann is a thug,

I agree that Vann is a thug, but I would also like to know what the circumstances surrounding his death are. I have no doubts that Vann is not guilty of something here

Very Late

I have moved from the area and found myself thinking of my late friend now four years later...and came to find this (and other) disgusting comments. Cory was a friend of mine. I am not a thug, drug user, or any of the other things that friends and loved ones of this man are being called. I am a nurse, highly educated in fact, with a clean criminal record who worked very closely with Cory. He was an amazing friend, hard worker, and caring person loved by many including many residents at the senior living center in which he worked. I know it is much easier to sit in judgement of someone, especially one with a past like Cory's, but to make assumptions and generalize and be down right vicious in your disregard for this young man's life and those who loved him and miss him still are disgusting. Shame on you and please remember your words when you are dealing with a tragedy in your own lives. Hopefully people are kinder to you.

Search

Thats just great searching for the killer of a drug dealer and thug. He most likely shorted a customer and the customer got him. Crooks do that ya know.

So let God judge him...not

So let God judge him...not you. Let his family have some peace. He is dead...never coming back. You dont think your nasty comments are not hurting the family even more. What did they do to you? Thats right nothing.

you must have a miserable

you must have a miserable life to say something so uncaring about another human. no one deserves to be killed and left laying beside the road. i guess you are a perfect person, which we all know is not true as anyone uncaring as you must have a few problems of their own to not think all life is worth something. i do not know you as you did not really know this young man, and i can say you are a very sick selfish individual to talk about this young man as if his life was not worth anything, i feel you need to look at yourself and see your own problems as you are a very mean individual not to think before you say anything about this young man
