Safety device makes difference in high-speed crash

The Toyota sedan hit a safety device mounted on the back of a DOT work truck. DOT officials say the crash impact attenuator is designed for the situations like this, and is the reason no one was killed.

Perdue's security vigilant but unchanged after threat

Earlier this week a man was arrested for allegedly saying, "When you see Bev Perdue with a .38 slug in her head, I did it." The man had apparently gotten angry at a DMV office when he made the comment.

video It's the traffic stop that turned into some serious charges. Earlier this week Chadbourn Town Manager Stevie Cox was arrested for impersonating a cop after a state trooper said Cox handed him a police badge and said he was the chief.

Admitted bank robber makes court appearance

A man who admitted robbing two Columbus County banks made his first appearance in court today. Investigators say 29-year-old Jonathan Bo Drye admitted robbing the first bank in Whiteville yesterday and the BB&T in Riegelwood last week.

EPA adds Riegelwood site to Superfund list

video The US Environmental Protection Agency is adding 10 new hazardous waste sites that risk people's health and threaten the environment to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites and is proposing to include 15 additional sites. The list includes a site in Riegelwood.

video The Whiteville mother accused of taking her daughter to a street fight and then cheering her on is no longer an employee of Columbus County Schools. On Monday night the Columbus County Board of Education spent part of their monthly meeting behind close doors to discuss Aneshia Cartret's employment status.
