County has plan for $10 million budget shortfall

WILMINGTON -- New Hanover County has come up with a way to make up for its part of the $10 million budget shortfall. The county is trying to compensate for almost $7 million from the budget mistake. About $3 million will come from the county fund balance. A little more than $4 million will come from budget cuts such as reducing government employee overtime, travel and holding off on buying new equipment. The county will also hold off on hiring a handful of firefighters for the Murrayville Fire Department, which is expected to be built in early April.

Great job from the County Commish

So, we are going to sacrifice lives by not hiring the proper number of firefighters. We are also going to cut LEO overtime which means we will be short on LEO. How about the county manager cut some of his money? This is sad...the county is going to cut money from areas we need and let the upper management (ie county manager) keep spending money they don't need to

Fund Balance

With over 50 million in the Fund Balance, why not take it all from there and not cut in other areas?

Fire Departments

Bring back the volunteer fire service! There are men and women who graciously donate their time so that new employees do not have to be hired. Since their training comes from the community college system in North Carolina... Why doesn't it make sense?

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO----Government is able to cut and not raise taxes. This should be done throughout the United States of AMexico.
