County officials awaiting initial report on fatal fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The emergency services director in Brunswick County says he hopes to get an initial report later this week on a fire that killed seven college students. Randy Thompson says the initial report from state investigators could come Friday. Officials in Ocean Isle Beach say they don't expect any word on the cause of the fire until they get the initial reviews. Six University of South Carolina students and one Clemson University student died in the fire Sunday morning. Six other USC students escaped. Tripp Wylie of Greenville, South Carolina, says he doesn't know why he woke up. Wylie escaped by jumping from a third floor window into a canal behind the house. He told ABC's "Good Morning America" today he had to jump quickly because smoke was filling the house. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
