County school funding are going to see cuts

A sluggish economy has set the state budget back billions of dollars. That means budgets are being cut in various arenas, including funding for county schools statewide. All of the school districts in our area are seeing cuts of at least $200,000. New Hanover County has to cut close to one million dollars. School officials still need to meet and determine how the cuts are going to play out.

expel the wayward youth who can not behave in a civilized manner and take advantage of the educational opportunities being offered. Then do away with the Police Resource Officers and you may actually offset the budget losses. Taxpayers have a right to see the maximum bang for their dollars. Wasting funds on wayward children who do not wish to behave seems like a significant waste of tax funds. Perhaps a few days at the juvenile detention centers will teach them the error of their ways.
How about instead of funding the convention center or $7million dollars for a marina for the multi use complex north of PPD donate all those millions to our school system and show our children & teachers we truly care about their future. It's time to invest in the future of our children so they can be properly prepared to go to college & work a meaningful career that can be their dream job.
