Coupon confusion at KFC

READ MORE: Coupon confusion at KFC

Who doesn't love a good deal, especially nowadays? When Oprah announced a promotion for KFC earlier this week, people jumped at the chance to print coupons off her website for a free meal. Apparently, KFC did not expect so many people to take advantage of the deal, and now it's causing some coupon confusion. "I worked hard all day, got ready to get my free meal at KFC,” said Sonja Avant. “A lady pulled me out of the line and said, ‘Are you here to redeem that today,’ I said, ‘Yes,’ and she said to me, ‘Well we're passing out rain checks’." Many KFC customers are taking a rain check, after showing up with coupon in hand, ready to enjoy a free meal. The coupon is part of an Oprah-endorsed promotion for KFC's new grilled chicken, offering two pieces of grilled chicken, two sides, and a biscuit. Apparently, KFC was not expecting so many people to use their coupon at once. The deal has only been going on for two days and according to the coupon, runs until May 19th, but customers are greeted by a sign on the door saying, ‘Due to the overwhelming demand for the free meal they can't honor the coupon at this time’. KFC President Roger Eaton has a similar message posted on Oprah's and KFC's websites. KFC customer Jay Scott said, "I believe it, it is a pretty popular item, something new, everybody wants to try, so we'll just use the coupon again next time." Others are not too happy. "I heard about the marvelous giveaway, I thought Oprah was giving away some new grilled chicken to advertise for KFC. I came up here and they tell me I can't have no food," said Kevin Boone. "It's the principle of it. I don't care about the coupon, I mean you put something out there to go try and everybody's trying it. You can't use it," said Tim Sidbury. KFC ensures its customers they will eventually get their free meal if they fill out a form and either mail it into the Kentucky headquarters or drop it off at a participating KFC.

Good idea gone bad!

Probably what started out as a great campaign has ended up as a disaster. Someone wasn't thinking straight, and it got out of hand. I don't watch Oprah, don't like Oprah, so I am not one of those who will get a coupon for a free meal, which doesn't bother me in the least. I do feel sorry for those who got a coupon and couldn't use it, but KFC is trying to make up for it. Just remember, for all of you out there who are just trying to get your meal in a honest way, there are those out there who are copying the coupons and getting more than the one free meal deal. Those are the ones you need to blame. They are called FREELOADERS and they exist everywhere!

You are kidding me.... Right?

You people are serious?? Really???? You cannot get something for FREE so you are mad? ............ Really????? Get over it!

KFC

Wilm man- Seriously? KFC was not prepared for the response they got...cut them some slack. -They are trying to fix things. Wasting food? What is wrong with people. Why do we all think we are entitled or owed something? They (kfc) made a mistake in not preparing for the huge response, take the raincheck and try again...And smile everything is gonna be alright...

Not much to say to this!

All i can say, is this article makes me embarrassed to be an American. KFC is giving rain checks, and honestly trying to rectify the situation, and people are saying things like "I came up here and they tell me I can't have no food"... really? Get over it.

Sounds like someone in a

Sounds like someone in a nice office with a view at KFC came up with a dumb idea and now they need to suck it up and give what was promised ...... this is the price you pay when your a media pig...... If I went to KFC and they did not give up the free meal I would never go back and I would advise others to do the same!

I think it's a joke! I was

I think it's a joke! I was all ready to get my free me, I waited in a long line of cars just to get to the ordering window and read a sign the says I can't get my free meal. The lady told me to drive up to the next window and she would explain things to me. I made it to work on time, but wasn't able get anything to eat. By the time I went thru the line I didn't have time to stop anywhere else. I am going to find a way to get more coupons and whether I eat all the food or not, I will send in every coupon I have....even if it means I will just throw the food away

For shame

You, my dear, whomoever you may be, are one of the reasons things like this go bad! You are angry now and so you are going to get more coupons and just throw the food away to make a point. How disgusting! What a waste, but I am sure that you don't really care anyway. You are a taker instead of a giver. Think about it!

Yeah well, I guess they

Yeah well, I guess they shouldn't make promises they can't keep....maybe I'll take one of those extra meals and give it to the homeless guy I saw around the corner

Repulsive

"I am going to find a way to get more coupons and whether I eat all the food or not, I will send in every coupon I have....even if it means I will just throw the food away" In a world where people are literally starving, this is the most pathetic and ignorant statement I have ever heard. Shame on you.

That will teach them!
