Defendant in Jordan slaying gets new sentence

READ MORE:
LUMBERTON (AP) -- One of the men convicted of killing the father of NBA star Michael Jordan has received a new sentence that makes him eligible for parole in eight years. The Fayetteville Observer reported Friday that 32-year-old Larry Martin Demery was resentenced Thursday in Robeson County Superior Court. Demery was sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years for the 1993 killing of James Jordan, along with an armed robbery of a motel and the shooting of a store clerk. Defense lawyer Hugh Rogers said prison officials interpreted the original sentence to be concurrent instead of consecutive. The shift makes Demery eligible for parole sooner. Demery received a plea deal after agreeing to testify against 33-year-old co-defendant Daniel Green, who was sentenced to life in prison. --- Information from: The Fayetteville Observer, http://www.fayettevillenc.com (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. Demery

shoots a store clerk, robs a motel, KILLS a person. Gets life, which for killing someone he should. Now they change his sentence so he can get parole. Just the kind of person I want to see back out on the streets. They might as well let Green out also. I will never understand our system. Leave the killers in prison.
