Delhomme, Panthers sprint away from 2006

Story body

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- Jake Delhomme was pretty worn out today after running back-and-forth sprints at Carolina Panthers workouts.

But the Panthers quarterback was happy.

Delhomme says it's been the best Panthers summer camp the team has ever had.

The 2006 season still eats at Delhomme and the Panthers. They stumbled to 8-and-8 and missed the playoffs. Delhomme received the most criticism since he became the starter in 2003 and led Carolina to the Super Bowl.

Summer camp has been busy. New offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson installed his new system. The top two draft picks -- linebacker Jon Beason and receiver Dwayne Jarrett -- got acclimated to their new teammates. Linebacker Dan Morgan continued his comeback from multiple concussions.

The Panthers also spent time bonding off the field by riding stock cars and playing paintball.
