Two wars currently in progress and one is escalating, still fighting with Iran and N. Korea over nuclear weapons, status quo with Cuba, Chavez (at least he isn't calling Obama the devil), and no progress made in the Middle East. I'm thinking they really did not have anyone to choose from this year. I've looked for a list of candidates but maybe they don't publish it.
So the committee is sitting there trying to decide and someone says, "that Obama guy, he reads teleprompters pretty well....."

He's working to end these wars that were started under another administration. One was totally legitimate, one was started based on incorrect intelligence. I don't think they require the prize winner to solve all the world's disputes. But Obama is trying to end some wars, wars that were started by someone else.
I believe we need to add a Tenth Principle to the Nine Principles of War: You cannot wage war against half a nation. It's amazing that we have to re-invent the "third nation counterinsurgency always fails" wheel again. I thought we learned that lesson over thirty years ago, and had a refresher course in Iraq.
As long as Obama adopts policies such as breaking contact with the enemy if non-combatants are close, he is CLEARLY showing that he values his own image above the lives of American servicemen.
You win a war by destroying the enemy and his will to fight. That's the ONLY way you win, and as MacArthur said, "In war, there is no substitute for total victory." If you don't want to win, why do you even start?
We are actually denying fire missions and air strikes because the enemy is engaging our forces from villages and compounds occupied by non-conbatants. Instead of wiping out the grid square, we run away.
Like his nice-guy predecessor, Obama has no stomach for the slaughter that is needed to win a war....and winning in Afghanistan (and Pakistan) is FAR more important to the safety of the United States than winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Am American president currently at war in two nations is given the Nobel Peace Prize???? This is a joke as is Obama himself. I think Obama learned a good lesson a couple of weeks ago when he did not get the Olympics in Chicago. The world does not love him, nor does many in this country. Even with the help of her largness Oprah, he still came in dead last place. This meaningless peace prize will only erase that fine lesson and he will once again feel that his cult of personality will be enough to get his socialist agenda moving. Hail Obama, leader of our....

Why are the awards being given out to Obama before he's done anything. There are counties and states that gave a day off in honor of him before he even became president http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/12/03/politics/main4646132.shtml. The list goes on of honors he's getting before his time. We all heard of the comparison to Ab Lincoln, yet he had just got into office. I like to think that Ab worked for all the things he had done, I think most all of us would like to see someone that has done something rather than just elequantly delievered promises and hopes. I am glad though to see that some are awake and not just blindly following the "Changes".

If you look at the previous recipients of the Nobel Peace prize , the award has lost much of it's luster! Jimmy Carter, Al Gore , Yasser Arafat and Kofi Annan were very questionable recipient themselves. Jimmy Carter is an anti-Semitic, Pro-Palestinian sympathizer , whose Administration represented absolute failure. The only thing he is good at is hammering nails!Al Gore rides around in corporate jets and SUV's advocating that people reduce their carbon footprint. What a hypocrite! Yasser Arafat was just a plain old TERRORIST! He was not an honest peace broker in the Middle East.Kofi Annan presided over one of the weakest and most irrelevant organizations in the world, the United Nations. The UN gives a platform to rogue nations and is not effective in intervening in any international crisis. They ride the backs of the American taxpayer's to clean up and police the world's problems.

Jimmy Carter is a humanitarian. He is 85 years old and is traveling the world RIGHT now taking insecticide-treated mosquito nets too impoverished areas to try and stop the spread of MALARIA. It kills more than one million people each year, mostly in Africa.
Not to mention all the homes that his charity has helped poor people obtain.
He isnt sitting around on his laurels as a past president. His all around peace keeping and humanitarian efforts since he left office have led him to be widely renowned as one of the most successful ex-presidents in US history.

Well, considering the damage that this country is in due to our former president. I think that he is doing an excellent job. All the haters need to STOP and think, Bush had 8 years to screw up this country and Obama has only been in office about 10 months, and 10 months can't clean up the damage for 8 years. So, yes so far so good. He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize just for becoming the First Black President of the United States. I think that's an outstanding achievement by itself.

He shouldn't get a Nobel Peace Prize for becoming the first BLACK president. That shouldn't make any difference. He didn't put himself there you did. There has never been that many votes taken before and it was all because of the color of his skin.People wasn't trying to look what was the best for the UNITED STATES it was for one reason and one reason only. Now I truely hope that all the ones that put him there is getting just what they wanted as our president.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a European thing. They all have a Socialist lifestyle anyway and tend to issue awards of this nature to the incompetent.
But really, look at the trend of awards of the Nobel Peace Prize:
Jimmy Carter
Al Gore
Now... B. Obama
You guys all understand and get the pcture now?

The Nobel Peace Prize....Hummm....I, for one, can never look at it the same again....unless it was given to him as an incentive to really step up to the plate and be the best president that we have ever known....hope that "Change" thing comes real soon and turns out to be worthy of that delirious decision....

I cannot understand how he could qualify. I would have respected the committee if they had awrded to the people of US for his election. This will only hinder him.

So now we give awards based on a promise to do great things? Ok, I want to throw my bid in for the next one. I promise to cure cancer, cure AIDS, end world hunger....
I honestly cannot believe that on the World News they said the award was given based on what he had promised to do as president. In my eyes the Nobel Peace Prize has now become as much of a token joke as has our new president.

president Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize because so far he has been committed to doing his job, and keeping his promises and being honest to our country. He has also helped more people than former Presidents did, He also shows that he cares about us Americans, unlike former presidents. you shouldn't be angry at obama for winning, you should be angry at whoever presented the prize to him
He is a joke as a president and the Nobel Peace Prize committee needs to wake up, and consider someone who actually has completed something good and, not hoping that someone will do good! Go GOP and Rush!!!!

Go GOP. As if this was some sort of competitive sporting event. As if democrats and republicans were batting for the USA trophy. Is this really what its come to?

What's the problem? Can any of you qualify to recieve a stop sign award? What do you know of someone else skills, when you poor country piglets have no skills. So shut up, like your country mama said,"If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all".
